The Kraków Szopki competition traditionally opens on the first Thursday of December, when makers bring their nativity scenes to the steps of the Adam Mickiewicz Monument on the Main Market Square. In 2026 that is Thursday 3 December.
What are Kraków's Szopki?
Szopki are elaborate, colourful nativity scenes modelled on Kraków's landmarks, such as St Mary's Basilica and Wawel Castle, made from foil, paper and wood. The tradition is listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. After judging, the best entries are exhibited at the Museum of Kraków.
How do you visit by chauffeur?
