What is Run Rome The Marathon?
Rome's marathon is one of Europe's most scenic city races, taking runners past the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, the Tiber embankments and Via della Conciliazione. It attracts thousands of international runners each March, along with friends and family who follow them around the city.
How do you travel in Rome on marathon day?
Large parts of the historic centre close to traffic on race morning, including the area around the Colosseum and the course along the river. If you are running, your chauffeur can drop you at the nearest open point to the start and meet you after the finish. If you are not running but need to cross Rome, for example to Fiumicino airport, your chauffeur will plan a route that avoids the course and leaves extra time.
Planning race weekend
- Collect your race bib at the expo before Sunday.
- Agree a meeting point after the finish, away from the crowds.
- Leave extra time for airport transfers on Sunday morning.
- Italy v England is the day before, so Rome will be busy all weekend.
