What is Sechseläuten?
Sechseläuten is Zurich's best-known tradition. The city's historic guilds parade through the centre in costume, and at 6pm the Böögg, a snowman packed with fireworks, is set alight on Sechseläutenplatz. Folklore says that the faster its head explodes, the better the summer will be. Each year a guest canton presents itself with food, music and exhibitions.
How do you travel in Zurich on Sechseläuten?
The guild parade route through the old town and around Bahnhofstrasse closes to traffic in the afternoon, and Bellevue is very crowded around the Böögg burning. Your chauffeur will drop you on the edge of the closed area and meet you afterwards at an agreed point, away from the busiest streets.
